Question 3. What is your Blogging budget?
This question has already drawn some concern. What do you mean, a commenter asked? Blogging costs money?
Of course the answer is both yes and no.
If you do not intend to sell advertising on your Blog, you can do so with no cost at all.
For a more professional looking Blog, you may want to buy a domain name. Had I not made such a purchase, this blog would be called UphillWriting.wordpress.com or richardwscott.wordpress.com.
You can search for a suitable domain name, and buy it on any number of sites on the Internet. The price of a domain name ranges from about $2 to about $16 per year, with most going for $10. Having a domain name for your Blog goes a ways toward making you look like a professional operation.
If you want to make money Blogging, however, you will need to have your own, or paid, host. You can download WordPress (software) to your paid host, getting all the features of the FREE WordPress service—and more, as well, as you can control the add-ons—and while you’re using WordPress software, you have full control. We’ll talk more about this later in the series.
If your free Blog requires more storage—for photographs, perhaps—you may need to shell out some extra cash.
Bottom line: You can have a popular and widely read Blog with your only outlay being time and talent, or you can build up your Blog with a domain name, or go to a hosted site and offer advertising.
