Slipping Out of Gear for Fun and Profit

If you’ve read the 9:30 post you know that yesterday was an odd day for me.

As I write today’s post yesterday, it is still being an odd day as I type up this post.

Typically I pick out the topics, and begin work on the next day’s posts early on.  Experience has told me that waiting until the last minute has its downside; often resulting in poorly conceived and executed posts.  You know the ones.  I’m sure you can always tell when I’ve waited until the last minute.

Yesterday (today, actually, time travel is hard to talk about) I slept most of the day hoping to get my body to do some repair work.  What I did not do was think about posts, new or old.  I just forgot about them all together.

It was sort of like slipping out of gear and just coasting in neutral.

What I find is that it is rather refreshing.  Relaxing.  OK, it isn’t something I could do every day, and I’m certainly not suggesting that you drop your Work In Progress willy-nilly, but I’m wondering if a day off now and then isn’t a good idea?  Staying focused all the time gets to be a struggle, I think.  Letting it go once in a while lets you recharge your batteries.  At least, I think so.  But then, I haven’t finished this post, yet.  ))

Giving yourself permission to think other thoughts on other topics can’t be a bad thing.  It brings a freshness to your mind, and to your day, that you might not have as long as you are holding tightly to a WIP and beating yourself over the head with deadlines.

I think deadlines are important.  They keep me honest, for the most part, but now and then I like to just let ‘em go by.

I’m reading a novel today. Decided I don’t really have to kill myself to finish prepping the novel for publication. It’s well underway and can wait a couple of days.

Reading is good, Catana!
On Saturday I met a woman (a speaker at the Writers Club) who reads one book a day, has written a lot of books, and has been published over 200 times in various places, and also finds the time to speak. Of course she is very young, but mein gott! She knows her stuff.
Makes me jealous.
