Book Project – Day Eighteen

I received a LOT of photos from my friends in Washington state—you may recall that they were making some shots of cupped hands so I could contrive a book cover.

There are some really good shots in the batch, but the one I’m showing you is almost what I’m looking for.  The shape of the hands, the clarity of the shot, the background are all wonderful.  But, of course, as this book is my baby, I want it to be perfect.  I’ve asked if they could do one more shot.  Same configuration as in this photo, but from the side with the hand in back slightly elevated (hands tilted toward viewer), and with a little home made gadget concealed therein.  I’m hoping they will take a battery, an old flashlight bulb, and a couple of wires so they can hide a light in the palm of the hand, and lit, take a picture in an otherwise darkened area.  This will give the effect of something unseen in the hands glowing brightly.  It turns out that photo-shopping the moon reflected in water held in the hands would be very difficult indeed, and the glow, while not a sophisticated, should be quite dramatic.

What do YOU think?

Yeah! Beautiful idea. What do you think of having the hands at an angle where they are pointing downwards? Don’t know what I like about this except maybe there’s an element of the light falling to ‘earth’ or a sharing idea or something. What do you think? (This is fun. I don’t feel confused today.)

That’s actually what you want. (I read it again). Really, I’m not confused. Love your idea.

The quest is certainly challenging but if you succeed, the result will be fantastic. Good luck.

Thanks, Nancy. I’m putting a lot of work into it. Hopefully it will all pay off.

Ricky,

I like the picture. I didn’t understand very well some of your lines above. What I like about this picture is that it looks like a heart emerging from two arms. Love the idea of the light in the hands. and I agree with Loreen, the arms in the background might work better if they were flipped down… probably “smudging” (?) them to look sort of wings?

Hi, Maria
I think the problem might have been the bad formatting of the post. Unfortunately, I can’t fix it. (
As for your idea, yes, I like the idea of blurring the background.

All. For some reason the formatting on this post failed. I’ve gone back to try to fix it, but it won’t fix. This kind of problem doesn’t happen often with Wordpress themes, but when it does, it is quite frustrating.

Ricky,

This photo is lovely… and how about as Loreen suggested if that light in the hands was pouring a “liquid light” into the world or something…

That is pretty much the idea!

I saw some great photos today on shutterstock.com – reasonably priced for an extensive license – maybe they might have what you are looking for?…
