There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio... and isn't it time you experienced some of them?
Well, the ‘ambitions’ can be very small indeed, like even getting a small story across in conversation. This morning people were talking about incidents with their ‘animals’, and I wanted to volunteer my story of the cat (you know the horrors of this) but I am in the process of putting it into Chapter 7, and so it was on my mind as an example of ‘reason and violence’. But an ‘acquaintance’ said ‘ssshhhh, not so quietly, and said I was disturbing the other patrons of the cafe. The woman who received my remark however, ended up in laughter at the sheer ‘horror’ of it all, and retorted in telling about a cat caught under a car hood. Yes, watch your cats, because they can/do get into serious difficulties, like people. So, it’s not usual for me, but I ended up saying that what she was doing was interfering with my own personal freedom. etc. etc. There was silence for about four minutes, when she said: “Don’t tell me you’re still thinking of that.” (Oh, yes people do like to control a situation). I had the Buddhist come back, and said that I had stopped thinking about it four minutes ago, – and asked her why she was raising the question. Then, when I left I said I was going home to brood about the rudeness in the world. (Following her dictate, with irony?) And that if people respected others more, they might have more respect for themselves. End of story. Wish I could put in the book!
