Is this like the thesis that knowledge is like ‘scientific knowledge’, and that it is through the imagination that we ‘arise above that’ into worlds of sci fi and fantasy, etc. etc. etc.(even religion!) That’s sort of ‘Kantian’…..
I’ve always found the idea of “write what you know’ to be kind of sophomoric. I believe, to your point, how can we write about alien invasion, or time travel, if we’ve never done it? Easy. It’s called imagination. ))
