Uphill Writing: Music Monday

Released in September of 1968, Lather, by The Jefferson Airplane is not what it seems.

At first look it is a touching look at a man unable to escape his own youth and face adult-hood, and the song works very well in this light, the lyrycs poetic and touching.

It turns out that the song was written to poke fun of the first of the band members to turn 30, at that time considered a boring age.  The song contains several in-jokes.

This song appeared on The Smothers Brothers comedy show, and the recording makes it one of the very earliest music videos.

I trust you will enjoy Lather, by Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane.
