Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, and Amazon

Amazon.com has made deals with publishers HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster which allows the publishers to set their own prices for books sold on the Amazon mega-site.

It is estimated that while some best-sellers will go for $9.99, most will be priced at $12.99 to $14.99.   Many older books will cost less than $9.99.
